Three law graduates will be sworn in as the newest members of the NMI Bar Association at an admissions ceremony to be held 11am today at the Guma’ Hustisia.

Ellsbeth Viola Alepuyo, Rosemond Blanco Santos, and Diane Sablan Cabrera recently passed the CNMI Bar Examination.

Alepuyo is a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law and currently works for the Public Defender’s Office. Santos graduated from the University of Denver and is employed by the Attorney General’s Office. Cabrera, who has a New Mexico law license, serves as an Assistant Public Defender.

The admissions ceremony will be held in conjunction with the signing of a proclamation recognizing the jury system during the month of May.

“We need to extend our gratitude to past and present jurors in our Commonwealth. A jury of one’s peers is an important element of American democracy. Jurors have made substantial contribution to the Commonwealth’s jurisprudence,” said Chief Justice Demapan.

Justices, judges and attorneys will be visiting schools throughout the CNMI in the next two weeks to make presentations about the judiciary and the jury system. According to Justice Alexandro Castro, they will reach out to about 1,300 students in an effort to educate the students about the jury system. (PR)
