TDHC’s expansion project gets conditional OK
The Marianas Public Lands Authority has granted conditional approval to the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino expansion project.
Tinian wants to construct a 14-story structure, which will house 555 additional rooms.
During the MPLA board meeting in Tinian on Wednesday, Tinian presented the board of directors with preliminary plans and conceptual drawings of the proposed expansion.
MPLA approved the project on the condition that Tinian Dynasty submits necessary documents within a six-month period.
The requirements include a detailed expansion plan, an environmental impact assessment and statements, documents related to funding sources, and an appraisal report.
Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino is reportedly planning to invest $80 million on the expansion program, in anticipation of the influx of Chinese tourists that is expected to ensue the signing of the Approved Destination Status memorandum between the Chinese and CNMI governments.
“The MPLA, acting in the best interests of the indigenous people of the CNMI, realizes that direct international flights to Tinian will commence in 2006. In order for Tinian to accept this influx of tourists the MPLA has granted the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino a conditional approval to construct a 14-story structure which will accommodate an additional 555 rooms,” MPLA said.
The hotel and casino’s existing 412-room facility cost $150 million to build.
Several other hotels on Saipan are also investing on renovation or construction of additional facilities. Among these are World Resort Saipan, Aqua Resort Club, Dai Ichi Hotel, Pacific Islands Club, and Hyatt Regency Saipan.
