The local sports scene featured another busy week, but stealing the spotlight was the seven Saipan Swim Club members who represented the Commonwealth the best they could at the 2005 Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia.

Nina Mosley, Myana Welch, Ben Babauta, Amanda Johnson, Natasha Good, Cooper Graf, and Michael Camacho each made the CNMI proud in their relentless efforts in the pool.

Mosley was impressive as always, taking home two gold and two bronze medals while breaking three age group records and two CNMI National records.

On the golf links, Sasaki Oliver took home a double after winning the 2nd Annual Marianas Tourism Education Council Golf Tournament at the Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort, shooting a three-under par 69. With the tournament coinciding with the Refaluwasch Golf Association’s May Ace of the Month, the Pride of Pohnpei found himself on top of two charts.

Baseball action also continued with action in the Saipan Major League intensifying and the playoffs of the Saipan Little League Baseball set after tie breaking games highlighted the past week.

Action on the cage hard court was also on high gear, with the diamond Fixers and Micronesian Brokers Inc. arranging a finals battle with wins in the semifinals of the Saipan Ice & Water Co., 20th Anniversary Basketball League.

The regular season of the BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League also came to an end, and the Toyota Prius, SaipanCell-NMC Hoopaholics, San Antonio Wildcats, Ulloa’s Ghasias 7-Kings, and G-Rollers making the playoffs.

Also, the Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association disclosed the roster of the CNMI team to the North Pacific Qualifying event on Guam next month.
