TINIAN—London-based Dunhill yesterday opened a boutique within the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, its first outlet in the CNMI.

Gemkell Corp. ventured into a Dunhill outlet within Tinian’s casino environment, which is popular among Chinese tourists. Dunhill is a popular name in Asia, where it has around 200 outlets, including 60 in China.

Gemkell also owns a Dunhill outlet on Guam, and it intends to put up its third outlet in Hawaii sometime in October, according to company president Richard Hawes.

“I met with the management here about six months ago. We felt that there is a retail opportunity,” Hawes said.

Dunhill is a luxury brand of assorted merchandise that includes leather goods such as bags and wallets, neckties, shirts, accessories and jewelry. Its founder, the late Alfred Dunhill, started the venture in 1897.

Emmanuelle Mace-Driskill, general manager of DFS and Travel Retail in Hong Kong, said Dunhill has been a leading luxury brand in Asia.

“To add the store in a casino environment is always interesting,” she said, optimistic that Tinian Dynasty’s guests would patronize the boutique.

Tinian Dynasty chairman Michael Kwan and Driskill led hotel executives and guests in yesterday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the new boutique.
