Two persons were injured after the pickup truck they were riding on smashed into a tree by the roadside on Beach Road in Chalan Laulau yesterday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David did not disclose the victims’ identities as of press time, but said that the female driver sustained several lacerations and bruises on the left side of her body.

David said the driver and her male passenger were both rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center. The hospital released the passengers after treatment of minor injuries, according to David.

Based on findings of an initial investigation, David said the woman was driving a Toyota Hilux pickup truck and was heading southbound on the outer lane of Beach Road when another vehicle slightly ahead of the truck suddenly switched from the inner lane to the outer lane.

To prevent a vehicular collision, the woman swerved the truck to the side, running smack into a tree.

David said the road mishap happened around 1pm across the B & R Auto Shop.
