Work begins on Obyan water wells
The Governor’s Water Task Force announced that Notices to Proceed have been issued to two contractors in connection with nine new water wells in Obyan that will be included into the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s water distribution system.
One of the NTPs was issued to a contractor that will manifold the new water wells into an existing distribution line that connects to a reservoir in Isley Field. The contractor has 90 calendar days, or until Sept. 19, to complete the waterline transmission project.
The other NTP was issued to another contractor that will install power lines to run the wells’ motor pumps. The contractor has 120 calendar days, or until Oct. 19, to complete the power line transmission project.
The NTPs were issued on Monday this week.
According to the Water Task Force, the nine new wells can produce a total of over half a million gallons of water a day. Drilling operations on the new wells were completed late last year. The pumps have also been installed.
The task force said the new wells will help provide water to villages in the southern part of the island, including Koblerville and San Antonio. (PR)
