Three re-nominated to commissions
Gov. Juan N. Babauta has renominated three commissioners—Norman T. Tenorio to the Commonwealth Telecommunications and Elizabeth DLG. Aldan and Frances M. Sablan to the Commonwealth Election Commission.
Tenorio currently serves as chair of the CTC, which recently approved the sale of Verizon to Pacific Telecommunications Inc.
Sablan and Aldan were re-nominated to serve as election commissioners, representing Saipan.
The governor, in his recent communication to the Senate, said the three commissioners “are qualified and will be an asset” to the public entities. If confirmed, the appointees would serve a term of four years each.
During a session on Rota this week, the Senate confirmed the reappointments of Antonio Camacho to the Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors, Eloise Furey to the Northern Marianas College board of regents/state board of regents, and Leonardo T. Calvo to the Civil Service Commission, representing Rota.
Meantime, the governor has certified six job vacancies in government.
In separate letters to the Legislature, Babauta said the Department of Public Health is in need of a physician (emergency locum).
“The filling of this vacant position is of vital importance for the efficient delivery of essential public services,” he said, noting that “continuing appropriations are available” for this vacancy.
Five other vacant positions need to be filled immediately. These are: one administrative assistant for the Tinian Municipal Council, a juvenile correction worker I at the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, a revenue enforcement officer II at Revenue and Taxation Division, and two community workers at the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office.
The administration said that funds are available for these positions under the continuing appropriation.
Meantime, the governor asked the Legislature to exempt Dr. Priyantha Wijayagunaratne from the salary cap of $50,000.
In a June 14 letter, Babauta certified and granted his approval to allow the physician to receive $105,000 a year.
