The Recycle Wear Fashion Show capped the first-ever EcoArts Festival held last week at the American Memorial Park, with team Paper Dolls dominating the catwalk and bagging the overall championship.

Led by Irwin Jamisola and Reynaldo Cauzon, the Paper Dolls team bagged first place in the Paper and Cardboard category and the Aluminum category.

Bernie Tarrobal of Xanrei Salon designed the Paper Dolls’ entry for the Paper and Cardboard category. Thomas Torres wore and showed off the gown on the runway. Tarrobal’s gown was made of used magazine pages rolled into balls and wrapped in plastics. The designer also accentuated the paper gown with a paper fashion hat and feathers.

Wilfredo Panganiban designed the winning entry for the Aluminum category. Panganiban made a futuristic evening gown made of aluminum foil and some paper accents. He complemented the gown with an aluminum shawl and a headdress.

The designs and entries of team Paper Dolls also won the chance to have their winning creations displayed at a DFS Galleria window.

Paper Dolls received $100 dollars each for winning two categories and $500 for the overall championship.

The Beauty Cadets group beat the Paper Dolls’ entry for the Plastic category. The Beauty Cadets was composed of teenagers who attended Stellar Marianas’ beauty boot camp two weeks ago. Hope Gomez, the 2004 Little Miss Marianas, sashayed down the catwalk wearing the winning plastic dress in red and black colors. Beauty Cadets won third place overall while team Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach bagged the overall second place but failed to win a top prize in the individual categories.

Beauty Cadets received $100 for winning the Plastic category and $200 for bagging the third place overall. Team Dai-Ichi received $300 for winning second runner-up in the overall category.

The Recycle Wear Fashion Competition started at 7pm Sunday and was hosted by coordinators Laila Y. Boyer and Jack Sablan.
