Players suiting up for the four teams set to compete in the Saipan Major League playoffs are itching to hit the field after Mother Nature’s wet weather forced officials to call off all games the past week, however, if things take a positive turn, action may finally kick off this Monday.

This according to league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi, who said yesterday that because the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field was still in bad shape due to the recent rains, the Northern Yankees and Bud Kings were not able to see action last night and will have to wait and see if weather cooperates on Monday.

The team from the north is the No. 1 seed in the playoffs after taking home the pennant crown behind its consistent play in the regular season, while the young Bud Kings are proving they can hang with the big boys as they posted the fourth-best record.

Joining the two in the championship series hunt are regular season runner up Miller Lite Brewers and Ford Rangers, who make up the other half of the semifinals.

Whoever emerges victorious in the two best-of-three series will advance to the best-of-five championship series, where the coveted 2005 crown will be up for grabs.

The 2005 postseason was placed on hold shortly after the Yankees wrapped up the pennant to allow the CNMI National team to use the field for preparation for the 2005 Palau South Pacific Mini Games. With the Games completed, the only thing standing in the way of the postseason is the ongoing wet weather.
