SML TO HOLD MASTERS LEAGUE MEETING ON THURSDAY

The Saipan Major League remains upbeat about organizing a Masters Baseball League and will hold a general membership meeting this Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.

SML official Tony Rogolifoi encouraged individuals interested in suiting up in the league to take part in the meeting scheduled for 5:30pm.

The league will be open to players above the age of 35 years and will serve as a venue to prepare for upcoming international competitions, such as tournaments in Australia.

Rogolifoi had earlier said that players must notify officials of their interest as team rosters will be organized by league officials.

Officials anticipate at least enough players to form four teams, however, if possible, more teams will be formed.

An opening date will be set as soon as all teams are organized and a venue is secured.

Rogolifoi added that performances in the league, which is expected to be an annual event, will serve as a key role in selecting members of the CNMI team to an upcoming masters tournament in Australia this November.

For more information, contact Rogolifoi at 664-2508.

SFA DERBY RESCHEDULED TO SEPT. 10 AND 11

Officials of the Saipan Fishing Association recently announced that the much-anticipated 21st Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament has been rescheduled to Sept. 10 and 11.

The derby was originally set for this past weekend, however, hazardous surf prevented anglers from taking the Marianas waters.

SFA also explained that all participants who are interested in getting their entry fee refunded can do so as long as a receipt is provided.

Refunds can be claimed at the MVA between 8am and 5pm. For refunds at MVA, contact Mary Muna at 664-3200.

Also, information on side bet group refund can be attained from Tony Scragg at 483-1112.

The information came as a blow as it was reported that Guam’s Hoa Nguyen of the Charlie Cat was returning for a second chance at bagging the big fish in the CNMI’s waters.

For more information about the Saipan Fisherman’s Association or the upcoming tournament, contact Frank Tudela or Ed Diaz at the Marianas Visitors Authority by calling 664-3200/01.
