After an experiment that involved moving its ever-popular 8-ball invitational tournament to the weekend, Round Two Bar and Grill will return the local pool competition to its original Thursday schedule beginning tonight.

Nenita Bufton, owner of the Garapan sports bar and watering hole, said she is excited that the 8-ball event would be going back to its familiar Thursday slot and is inviting the island’s billiards aficionados to grace the tournament.

The Thursday 8-ball competition used to be one of the most popular pool tournaments on island but has suffered through slipping attendance soon after Round Two’s original owner Don Pangelinan left for the U.S. mainland.

Bufton and her husband, Don, acquired Round Two from Pangelinan in early 2005 and in June revived the Thursday evening pool classic. After a two-month run, Bufton, partly because of clamors from certain players, decided to move the pool event to Fridays.

The shift to the weekend, however, proved unfruitful for the pool competition, as it continued to suffer from poor participation and not once did Round Two hold a tournament in middle and late August and early September.

Aware of the mistake, Bufton immediately pulled the plug on the weekend experiment and decided to reinstate the event to Thursday.

Aside from the Thursday 8-Ball Invitational, which used to be sponsored by Pacific Trading Co. and one of its flagship brands, Miller Lite, Round Two also used to hold a team billiards competition, a ladies invitational, and the occasional co-ed tournament.

Bufton said entry fee for the competition, simply named Round Two Thursday 8-Ball Invitational Tournament is $10 and slots in a first-come, first-serve basis are open for 16 players.

The winner of the weekly tournament will bag a championship trophy and a cash prize, while runner-up and third place will not go home empty handed, as gift items and cash prizes also await them.
