The Typhoons won their second straight game while the Tornadoes had just enough juice to emerge victorious as action in the 2005 Masters Baseball League continued Saturday at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field.

The Typhoons got off to a steaming start and had their way against the Cyclones to post an impressive 11-6 victory.

The Typhoons had their first three batters reach base as leadoff batter Bob Lizama started the charge with a single, Ivan Igitol reached on an error, and Lt. Gov. Diego Benavente connected for a double. The team racked up three runs in the top half of the first, and Benavente and Dave Kapileo hit consecutive doubles in the second inning for another three-run push that resulted in the Typhoons going up 6-0.

The Typhoons scored a run in the third and fourth innings, and were sitting in the driver seat with an 8-0 lead before the Cyclones managed to get a runner to cross home plate for their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Tony Camacho took credit for the run as the slugger connected for a solo shot.

The Typhoons were finally held scoreless in the fifth inning, and the Cyclones continued to build momentum with two more runs in the bottom half to cut the deficit to five runs, 3-8.

The Typhoons were not silenced long enough, though, as Kapileo knocked in another run with his second double of the game in the sixth. Another two runs were scored in the seventh, and the Cyclones were able to inch closer but their two-run effort in the bottom of the last inning was still short to overcome the deficit.

Earlier, the Tornadoes went berserk in the early goings and held off a late rally by the Hurricanes to leave with a nail-biting 11-10 victory.

The Tornadoes had four hits and drew two base on balls in the first inning to grab a 4-0 lead.

Tony Luzama helped the Hurricanes get on the scoreboard by drawing a base on balls and crossing home plate in the bottom half of the inning, but the Tornadoes managed to add another three runs in the second to take a comfortable lead, 7-1.

The Hurricanes were soon knocking on the Tornadoes’ doors as they racked up another four runs in the third to cut the deficit to just two runs, 5-7. Larry Tenorio and Luzama singled, and Reno Celis cleared the bases with a triple to highlight the attack.

The Tornadoes padded their lead with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, 10-5. The Tornadoes scored another run in the sixth in response to the run the Hurricanes added in the fifth, and it proved to be the difference as the Hurricanes put up a four-run rally before bowing out.
