NMIVA hosts Micro Games qualifier
With a number of local athletics associations busily preparing for next summer’s 2006 Micronesian Games in Saipan, the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association is following suit by embarking on its journey to find the team that will represent the CNMI in the sand courts of the beach volleyball competition.
Beginning at 10am on Saturday, Oct. 22, the best of the best will square off at the Pacific Islands Club in NMIVA’s first men’s qualifier. Teams of two will duke it out in the dual purpose double elimination format. While the guys will be working toward landing a spot on the team, the money raised in the tournament will also help raise the funds that they will need to compete for the CNMI.
The top women get their chance to dance on the following day at the PIC with the same rules and format on Sunday, Oct. 23.
Registration will start at 9am and wrap up 15 minutes before the games get underway, and the cost to enter the tournament is $5 for NMIVA members and $10 for non-members.
According to NMIVA president Jon Cramer, all participants are encouraged to play with a partner that they would like to qualify for the Games with. Cramer also said that players not eligible for the Micro Games are more than welcome to compete in this weekend’s tournament, as he hopes to have the highest levels of competition for the event.
