The Cyclones exploded and snapped the Typhoons’ win streak, while the Tornadoes rallied in the last inning to edge the Hurricanes as action in the SML Masters Baseball League continued Saturday at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field.

In the opener, the Cyclones surprised many by handing the Typhoons’ their first loss via blowout as the team erupted in the first inning and never looked back before taking the win in a shortened game, 14-4.

The Cyclones were on a roll from the start as Pepe Tenorio and Ben Duenas led off with consecutive singles and later scored for a 2-0 lead. Tony Camacho also reached on an error, and the Cyclones followed with four straight singles and a triple by Dennis Renguul. By the time the Typhoons got to bat, the Cyclones had already scored seven runs.

The Typhoons were able to close gap in the bottom of the second inning with three runs. With one out, Jess Cabrera drew a base on balls, Leo Bobai singled, and Mel Teregeyo reached base, setting the stage for Randal Aaron, who came through with a bases-clearing triple.

The Cyclones added another run in the top of the third when Watanabe walked and scored on a double by Tenorio, 8-3.

The Cyclones continued to have the hot bats and broke away with four more runs in the next inning and added another two runs in the fifth.

The Typhoons, meanwhile, only managed to score a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Manny Tenorio led the Cyclones, going 3-for-3, drew a base on balls, scored a run, and drove in three runs. Watanabe also had a solid outing with a hit, two runs, a base on balls, and three RBIs.

Aguon led the Typhoons with a triple and three RBIs.

In the second game, the Tornadoes entered the bottom of the seventh inning down by a run and managed to get two runners home for a come-from-behind 9-8 victory over the Hurricanes.

Tom Torres and Ed Santos successfully reached base to start the rally. Torres came through in the clutch by stealing home to tie the score at 8-8, and Santos raced home for the winning run on a fielder’s choice by Robert Repeki.

The Hurricanes seemed to have the game in the bag as they scored six runs in the top of the first and another in the second for a 7-0 lead.

The Tornadoes finally got going and scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth, and another three in the fifth. At that points, they trailed by just a run, 7-8, as the Hurricanes scored in the top of the fourth.

Torres and Santos each scored twice to lead the Tornadoes. Jess Mesa and Reno Celis also had two runs apiece for the Hurricanes, who dropped to 0-4.
