Pool Junkies hoisted the championship of the third season of the 2005 Budweiser-Bud Light Wednesday Night Billiards League during award ceremonies held last Nov. 2 at the Shooters Sports Bar in Garapan.

Team captain Roger Espiritu and players Rico Alcazar, Jojo Talibong, Ernie Guillermo, and Cezar Sangalang proudly accepted the three-foot tall championship trophy as well as smaller individual trophies from league organizers Fred and Kim Prinz. A sixth member, Jean Cadag, was not present during the event.

Espiritu attributed Pool Junkies’ win to old-fashioned hard work and team chemistry, which were both apparent throughout the season when the team lorded it over the field and finished the seven-week pool competition with 63 points.

So impressive was Pool Junkies’ run that it strung together 10 or more points in five straight weeks beginning Sept. 28 and ending on Oct. 19, when it registered a season-high 11 points.

Destroyers finished six points behind Pool Junkies to claim runner-up honors. The team of Luis Fajardo, Robert Sanciangco, R.J. Mascarinas, Willy Roman, Edwin Mascarinas, and Eric Santos came away with 57 points, which include back-to-back 10-point weeks on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5.

Hyatt Pomec finished the season with a respectable 51 points. It earned 10 points on Week 6 held last Oct. 19. The team is made up of Ed Manucdoc, Rodel Dela Cruz, Brendyl Rama, Ricardo Elefante, and Marvin Mendoza.

Rounding out the eight-team league were Jam Shooters (51 points), Los Cabo’s (45), No Mercy (45), Marines II (37), and Phantom (0).

The Prinzes congratulated Pool Junkies for bringing home the championship and also thanked the seven other teams for participating in the league. The two also extended their gratitude to sponsors Budweiser and Bud Light for supporting the just ended pool competition.

Shooters Sports Bar is one of the newest billiards venue on Saipan and boasts of six billiards tables—two of which are of the nine-foot variety.
