7K more water meters to be installed
At least six contractors showed up in yesterday’s pre-bid conference for the installation of additional 7,000 smart water meters throughout Saipan.
The CNMI Water Task Force is currently in the process of hiring a contractor for the additional meters, which will be installed primarily on the eastern side of the island.
The 7,000 meters will be set up in addition to the 4,000 smart meters that have already been installed and the 1,500 currently being installed on the western part of the island, which includes areas from San Roque to San Antonio.
ÅgThis project is a continuation of the meter installation program that is contribution to the water conservation measures we’re trying to make on Saipan,Åh WTF project manager Don Smith said yesterday.
Prospective bidders may submit questions concerning the bid before 2pm tomorrow, Nov. 16, 2005. The Water Task Force will accept bids for the project until Monday, Nov. 21.
Smith expressed hope that the 270-day meter installation project would be completed by September next year.
The Water Task Force recently finished installing the last of the initial 4,000 meters at the corner of Plumeria and Coconut Avenue in Garapan.
The water meter installation project started in May this year with the initial 4,000 meters installed at several points north and south of San Jose, including the Northern Marianas College water reservoir, the reservoir on Isley Field going down to Chalan Piao, the Calhoun reservoir serving upper/lower Navy Hill, Chinatown, MIHA housing going down to the Maturana Hill, on to the Commonwealth Health Center and Beach Road in Garapan and the Puerto Rico reservoir going down to Middle Road and on to Garapan.
It is the task force’s goal to have every Saipan household and business metered, so consumers will pay for their actual water usage.
