Undercards wow jam-packed crowd
The crowd of 250-plus got their money’s worth as Trench Warz Fight Night rocked the Trench Tech-Purebred Saipan Gym Saturday night.
As reported earlier, Trench Tech’s Frank Camacho and Jason Tarkong were on the winning side of the two main events, but action was already intense and electrifying even before the two raised their arms in victory.
A total of 14 fights preceded the main events, featuring fighters who specialize in various martial arts.
The evening began with two amateur boxing bouts, with Aquinaldo Tesado winning by unanimous decision against Wanes Joab in the opener and Shab Sablan beating Herman Duenas by unanimous decision as well.
It was then that action kicked up a notch as Tony Arriola and Danny Atalig showcased their skills in a kickboxing bout. The two fighters—fighting out of Trench Tech—exchanged a series of blows which made it difficult for the judges to score the bout. Both had to dig deep in their hearts for every bit of possible energy as neither was willing to give in and barely going the distance. In the end, it was Arriola who edged Arriola with the win via split decision, with two of the three judges favoring him.
The bout was then followed by two submission fights that saw John Lizama given a good fight before beating Matt Reyes via tap out, and George David and Peter Sablan going head to head in a thrilling heavyweight bout that ended with David winning, 7-2, on points.
All hell then broke loose as the no-holds barred fights began, with Ray Alvarez III beating freestyle fighter Rick San Nicolas by tap out.
Arthur Reyes of Trench Tech then defeated Ken Taitano, who took the fight on short notice, by knockout after working his opponent to the corner, as did Clifford Masga, who managed to get opponent Gordon Seman on the ground before unleashing a series of blows to win after the referee stopped the bout.
Palauan phenom Slade Adelbai and John “Nanka” Rasiang then got the crowd to its feet as the two pounded away at each other. Nanka had the early advantage after landing several strong punches to the head that brought the Palauan to his knees, but Adelbai managed to recover and worked Rasiang to the corner before going off for a series of punches. It was then that the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
Giovanni Sablan then recorded a KO over Julian Fitial after landing a series of punches to the back of Fitial head, while Trench Tech’s Jay Santos worked Primo Ogarto to the ground before winning by tap out. Ogarto took the fight in just one day’s notice.
J.D. Reyes then defeated Jess Ruben via tap out, and Rudy Camacho managed to survive a tough bout against Darrel Salas. The two were battling an evenly fought bout, both showing signs of exhaustion. It was Salas, however, who gave in while still standing.
