D-9ers remain undefeated over Islanders
The Saipan Softball Association’s D-9ers kept their unbeaten season alive on Wednesday night as they rallied from behind to blow away the Islanders at Tan Ge Softball Field, 24-14, in continuation of the Men’s Island-Wide Fast Pitch Softball League.
Greg F. Camacho went 2-for-5 on the night with a single, an inside-the-park homerun, and two runs batted in to help power the D-9ers (2-0) to victory, while slugging shortstop Mel Sakisat went 3-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, five runs scored, and seven runs batted in.
Roy Celis went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI for the northern team, and while Dante Sablan went 1-5 at the plate with an RBI single, he did most of his damage on the defensive side of the ball by hawking on bunts and leaping at loopers from the third base side.
With a 5-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the third, the D-9ers watched as the Islanders chipped away at the lead with runs in the third before answering back with three in the top of the fifth. That wasn’t enough to deter the Islanders (0-2) as they surged ahead with a six-run fifth to take the lead for the first time in the game.
The power shift didn’t last long, however, as the D-9ers rebounded with a 12-run response in their next at bats to put the game away for good.
Seabees 4 9, Kagman Lancherus 8
The Seabees 4 (1-0) wasted no time in jumping out to grab its first win if the season as the boys from the Chalan Kanoa area led 8-1 midway through the game before the Kagman Lancherus (1-1) finally made use of their bats.
John Reyes went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Seabees as the squad utilized 16 players in the game. Few hung around for more than half of the game as the Seabees hung on for the win despite a fierce comeback by the homesteaders.
The Lancherus narrowed the lead to 8-5 with a four run outburst in the top of the fifth inning but fell one run shy when they tallied three in the seventh and final inning.
WOMEN’S ISLAND-WIDE SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE
Bomsoro 14, Hitters 6
The women of the Saipan Softball Association got their chance to play on Tuesday night at Tan Ge Softball Field as Bomsoro blew away the Hitters, 14-6, to earn their third win of the season.
Connie Camacho continued to cruise with a solid 3-for-4 performance at the plate in which she cranked out three singles, drove in a run, and scored three times for Bomsoro (3-0). Camacho didn’t have to do all of the work herself, as her teammates scored 14 runs off of 19 hits that was highlighted by a five-run second that put Bomsoro up 7-0. From there it was all gravy as the teams traded four-run innings en route to the one-sided win that sent the Hitters to 1-2 on the season.
Pacific Amigas 19, Tanapag Lady-8ers 10
It’s a good thing that the Tanapag Lady-8ers are not in charge of the water task force as they had a difficult time stopping flow of runners across home plate when the Pacific Amigas came to play on Tuesday night as they suffered their first loss of the season, 19-10.
After closing out the first inning with a 1-1 tie, the Pacific Amigas cranked out five runs to take a 6-1 lead. They liked it so much that they did it again in the top of the third to take an 11-1 advantage. The Lady-8ers answered with three of their own in the bottom of the inning, but the Amigas never stopped scoring with a pair in the fourth, one in the fifth, another pair in the sixth, and three in the seventh.
By the time the scoring came to a close, the Amigas racked up 22 hits and fell just one run shy of a double-x on the Roman scorecard to move into third place with the 8ers at 1-1.
Mix-A-Lot 21, It’s Okay 11
Things weren’t fine for It’s Okay at Tan Ge as Mix-A-Lot walloped the optimists by 10 runs in the eighth inning to put an end to one of the most exciting games of the night.
It’s Okay took too much time in denial as Mix-A-Lot soared out to an 9-0 lead in the top of the fourth before answering back with six runs in the bottom of the inning. It’s Okay (1-2) tied the score in the seventh to extend the game, but the energy expended pulling even took it’s toll as Mix-A lot whacked 10 runs off of nine hits and a walk to improve it’s record to 2-1.
