The people who turn entry fees into streets lined with trees has linked up with duffers overseas as the Tournament of Champions announced that the Guam Governor’s Cup golf tournament is offering free entry to all of the flight winners from Saipan’s biggest golfing event last August.

According to 2006 Tournament of Champions Chairman Rodney G. Klinge, all Saipan golfers are invited to enter the two day affair in Guam this weekend, but the first place winners of all flights in the 2005 Tournament of Champions need only pay for their own airfare and accommodations to participate in the Guam Governor’s Cup tournament on Saturday, Dec. 10, and Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Leo Palace Golf Resort.

Klinge said that the local golfers will have plenty to play for in the southernmost links on the Marianas chain including a slot to the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia in February, 2006.

Much like the format from the 2005 TOC, the first place flight winners in the Guam affair will have their names put into a hat from which the Johnnie Walker Classic winner will be selected.

“The possibility would exist that two Saipan golfers could make the trip to Perth, Australia in February—one from the Tournament of Champions and one from the Guam Governor’s Cup,” said Klinge.

The registration fee or those wishing to enter the tournament without the complimentary ticket is $180, and entry forms are available at the DFS security office in Garapan.
