Hotel Nikko donates $2K to Hopwood, Mt. Carmel
The spirit of giving during the holiday season was exhibited by Hotel Nikko Saipan when it turned over a portion of its Educational Tax Credits to two schools on Saipan yesterday.
Hotel Nikko president Shinji Nakamura led the donation ceremony held yesterday morning at the hotel’s lobby. He personally handed over two checks worth $1,000 each to Hopwood Junior High School and Mount Carmel School.
Nakamura said despite the economic slowdown that has affected the entire hospitality industry in the CNMI, the hotel still recognizes the importance of the season and is always ready to reach out and contribute to the needs of the community, especially the school system.
He said his staff came to him recently and told him that the hotel should do something special this Christmas season. Since education and the lack of funds for it seems to have become a hot issue lately, Nakamura said, Hotel Nikko decided to donate a potion of its ETC to schools.
“Though it is not enough, we do our best to help the community,” added Nakamura.
HJHS principal Jim Brewer accepted the donation together with some of his teachers and students. He said the generosity of the hotel is greatly appreciated. He said the money they received would go to the maintenance needs of the school.
Mount Carmel School principal Galvin Deleon Guerrero said it is indeed a great Christmas gift they received from the hotel. He said he was surprised with Hotel Nikko’s generosity.
“We are very thankful for Hotel Nikko for striving to build a good relationship with the CNMI community.
Hotel Nikko is set to donate another portion of its ETC to three more schools before the end of the year. Nakamura said every year management reviews schools in the Commonwealth that deserve the hotel’s contributions.
