Hot Myx licks Lick It, Stick It, Smack It at PIC
With only one game left on their regular season schedule, the Hot Myx continued to rule the sand by sweeping Lick It, Stick It, Smack It on Tuesday night in the continuation of the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League at the Pacific Islands Club.
Rachel Bandelin’s squad was unable to stop the onslaught as Lick It, Stick It, Smack It (8-4) dropped the first two sets by a combined score of 22-9 before Gordon Odoshi fired off 11 straight serves to skunk the Its, 11-0, in the third.
The win improved Hot Myx to 12-1 and all but assured them of a first place finish atop the league, but they will still have to knock off Jon Cramer and the Got Beer? brew crew on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 7:30pm for the title.
Both Palaksi and America F@#& Yeah! are still in the hunt at 10-2, and the Americans knocked off the only team that edged the Hot Myx when they broomed Puff, Puff, Pass in progressively problematic periods of play.
After cruising to an 11-1 win in the opener, America F@#& Yeah! faced a tougher challenge in the second as they clinched the game by taking the second set, 11-7. Despite picking up the loss, Puff, Puff, Pass (7-6) continued to play passionately and provided plenty of punch in a powerful performance, but eventually fell prey to the Americans in the final set by the closest of margins, 11-9.
Pugua Time! locked up the penultimate playoff berth by axing Aschaabw in a battle of 11-6 scores. After dropping the opening set 11-6, Pugua Time! (8-4) scored back-to-back 11-6 sets to pull out the win.
Aschaabw fell to 5-8 in their final contest of the season—one in which their level of talent was not reflected in their record.
The race for the worst record is still alive and well as two teams are teetering on the edge with twin 1-10 marks, but the front runner is still the Sugoi Seven at 1-12. Grace Christian Academy kept the dream alive on Tuesday when they were swept by Galuti in straight sets, 11-4, 11-7, and 11-4.
Galuti has no chance at winning the losing title, but they are situated nicely among the league leaders at 9-3 with two games to go.
