Indians rally to beat Chiefs in holiday clash
The Indians got a late gift from Santa and defeated the Chiefs, 46-43, in comeback fashion in the ongoing 2005 Budweiser-Bud Light Bowlliards Tournament Monday night at the USSP Club in Garapan.
Shaking off their Christmas Day celebration, the Indians got off to a slow start and trailed by 13 points after the first eight frames as the Chiefs were on a roll and worked up a 31-18 lead.
All that changed, though, as the Indians kept their focus and remained determined to turn things around.
Edward Suzuki kicked off the furious rally by coming through with a strike on the ninth frame, and the team got another boost as Rose Phillips followed with nine points in the team’s final frame to make the most of Suzuki’s charge.
With the two coming up big in the clutch, the Indians managed to swing favor to their corner and hold on for the win.
Meanwhile, Marvin Bau-lechong added another two points for the Chiefs to bring their score up to 33, and Bern Ikeda made it a thrilling end as he posted a strike after pocketing all the balls to add another 10 points to his team. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, Ikeda played their final frame and could not earn extra points from his strike.
Suzuki was on fire and led the Indians with 24 points, while Phillips added 17 points. Mary Suzuki and Ace Elameto also added three and two points.
Ikeda paced the Chiefs with 22 points while Kiko Ganover added 10 points. Baulechong and Chris Carlson finished with eight and three points.
With the win, the Indians went home with Bud Family prizes.
Phillips, who also owns the venue, invites interested individuals to take part in the tournament, which is held every Monday.
“It’s happy hour when the tournament is ongoing and from 9pm to 10pm, everyone can avail of our special price on beer, which is less than a dollar,” she said. “All players are welcome to enhance their shot for their league or tournament.”
