24 bowlers vie for wild card slots

The 12 remaining slots for the season-ending Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament will be contested by 24 players on a three-game elimination roll-off set for Jan. 8 at the Capital Bowling Center.
While Bowling Ranking System topnotcher Robert Talavera and company already received automatic slots for the nine-game roll-off on Jan. 15 at the same venue, leading the wild card hopefuls are Arnel Del Rosario (600 points), Ronald Epan (572), Paul Pangelinan (564), Raymond Angeles (470), Glen Garde (466), Rusty Musca (464), Michael Guirey (408), Jon Hensley (388), John Sablan (322), Ador Dimaano (319), Jonathan Eparwa (273), and Joseph Sablan (266).
Making up the bottom half of the wild card players are Orlie Ebuen (261), Roman Borja (242), Efren Cacdac (218), Jun Canillo (163), Celso Agui Jr. (114), John Rimirch (103), Roman Mamauag (75), Joe Etpison (75), Mario Mayuga (36), Percy Omechelang (36), Chester Bai (30), and Wellington Ang (26).
Selected as alternates in case any of the 24 fail to show up for the three-game roll-off are Beteliano Villalas Jr., Edgar Marquez, Lito Teodoro, Roger Vales, Ariel Dumapit, Eric Palacios, Dennis Teregeyo, and Tony Yarobwemal.
The three-game elimination roll-off would kick off at 3pm on Jan. 8. Saipan Bowling Association official Ross Zapanta said if any of the bowlers ranked 13th to 36th are not present at the bowling center by 3:30pm, then alternates will be accepted.
He said alternates will be admitted based on rankings, otherwise it will be based on the number of participation in the roll-offs. Zapanta also said that bowlers must be actually in the bowling center at the specified time to be registered and registration by telephone would not be accepted. Entry fee for the elimination roll-off is $15.
The Pepsi King of the Lanes is sponsored by Pacific Trading Co. Last year, PTC general manager Charles Cepeda spent over $6,000 for the yearlong bowling tournament.
