Members of the Department of Public Safety’s elite Tactical Response Enforcement Team arrested a man who allegedly broke into a commercial building in Gualo Rai on Friday early morning.

Eleven members of the TRET team led by Police Officer Eric David surrounded the Mid Pac Micronesia Building between 3am to 4am upon receiving information that a burglar was still inside the building.

The team then arrested the suspect, who initially struggled with the officer, David told the Saipan Tribune in a telephone interview.

The suspect was still carrying some tools when the TRET team collared him, said David, who is also the acting DPS spokesman.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect broke into Mid Pac building, causing an alarm to sound off.

A member of TRET team who resides near the area approached the building to check the place. When the TRET member learned that the suspect was still holing in the building, he called the other members of the team.

David said the person arrested was a local man. He refused to elaborate further, saying the police report was not done yet. (Ferdie de la Torre)
