Workforce Development Summit rescheduled
Northern Marianas College’s planned Workforce Development Summit for February may have to be rescheduled to a later date.
According to a recent statement by the college, some planning committee members have suggested that the summit be pushed back due to the holidays and the government transition.
“This topic will be addressed at the next planning meeting on Jan. 5,” the statement said.
The statement also said that the Workforce Development Summit planning committee already comprises five sub-committees, which include Data Collection and Analysis, Resource Mapping, Policy and Law Review, Job Bank Database, and Summit Logistics.
Small Business Development Center’s Eric Plinske and Community Development Institute’s David Attao are the co-committee chairs.
After more than a week of holiday break, the planning committee will resume its bi-weekly meetings to continue planning for the targeted summit dates tentatively slated on Feb. 16 to 17, 2006.
The committee also said the following website has also been developed to post information about the event, and post the minutes from committee meetings: www.nmcnet.edu/community.cfm/compass/sbdc/programs/specialprojects/workforcesummit.
The Workforce Development Summit will “provide a venue for the CNMI public to learn about current CNMI labor market data, trends, challenges, and opportunities while being presented with proposed solutions and actions to improve resident workforce employment opportunities,” added the statement.
The summit promises to provide a lot of room for audience discussion and feedback for final incorporation into an action plan that will be submitted to the Executive and Legislative branches of government, government agencies, and private sector business organizations.
