85 finish culinary arts and food processing courses
The Philippines’ Overseas Workers Welfare Administration office in the CNMI awarded certificates of completion to 85 Filipinos for finishing its training on culinary arts and food processing.
The graduates convened at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan Friday night for the commencement exercises organized by OWWA.
OWWA welfare officer Mary D. Dait expressed hope that the training would provide participants several options when they return to the Philippines.
Philippine Labor Representative Joan Lourdes D. Lavilla congratulated the graduates for their interest and cooperation during the training program.
“We hope you make a difference either at your workplace or at home,” she added.
Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela also extended his congratulations to the graduates and the organizer for accomplishing another worthwhile training.
Philippine Consulate consul general Wilfredo DL. Maximo recognized the efforts of the Filipino overseas workers who had given their time and effort to acquire knowledge in culinary arts and food processing.
He said it was admirable the way his kababayans were able to fit in their busy schedule the training, which they could use for livelihood purposes or added income generation.
OWWA also recognized the OFW support group that continuously gives guidance and assistance to Filipino nonresident workers in the CNMI.
Certificates of appreciation were also given to the trainers and facilitators who gave of their time to impart knowledge to the Filipino workers.
The students also prepared intermission numbers to add to the merriment. The Culinary Arts Class II rendered a traditional Filipino dance complemented with Philippine national dresses and the CNMI mwars. Culinary Arts Class I showcased another Philippine traditional dance number called “Pandanggo sa Ilaw.”
The OWWA support group also provided a song number they dedicated to Filipino graduates and their families. Pacific Islands Club’s Paul Dujua serenaded the graduates.
The events also served to recognize the support of local Filipino groups and community members for the agency’s “Tuloy Aral Program” that helps needy Filipino children in the Philippines continue their studies.
Office of Insular Affairs field representative Jeff Schorr, and Tan Holdings Corp.’s Eli Arago were some of the several community members who were recognized for their support.
