The Division of Environmental Quality will conduct a Risk Communication Workshop for government entities tasked with protecting public health on March 6, 2006.

Over 35 participants have signed up for the half-day course to take place at Northern Marianas College Room D-1.

“The workshop covers both the usual and unusual situations you might face, discusses personality characteristics of your audiences and how best to communicate with them,” said Bruce Macler, Water Toxicologist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-Region 9.

Other topics include strategies for effectively providing information to the public, and will give you a number of suitable responses to the questions you might be called on to answer.

The workshop is set to begin at 8am until noon. Participants will also hold mock interviews to practice their communication skills. This workshop will focus on communications during emergencies, including pre-planning and emergency response plans.
