After a couple of days in waiting, the Hitters finally got a date in the Women’s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League championship as the pennant winning Bomsoro squad scored a 12-8 victory over It’s Okay to sweep the best-of-three semifinals.

A number of big-time players stepped up for the all-stars to help the power-packed squad gain entry into the finals, including youngster Arcy Moncrief.

The talented shortstop led Bomsoro with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate that yielded three singles, drove in a run, and allowed her to put her base-running skills to work with a pair of plate crossings.

Dolores Rangamar was also a force with the swat stick as the centerfielder went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run batted in, while fellow outfielder Connie Camacho went 2-for-4 with a pair of base knocks and three runs scored.

Jovie Omar came in to pitch in relief late in the game, but perhaps her biggest moment came in the top of the seventh when she hit a two-run shot to round the bases for Bomsoro’s final runs of the game.

After rallying from a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-3 lead, Bomsoro added a pair of runs in the fourth to take a 7-4 advantage. It’s Okay never gave up, as they chipped away at the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth to pull to within one run of Bomsoro, 7-6, but the pennant champs blew the competition away with a thrilling five-run outburst in the top pf the seventh to end all hopes of a comeback.

Action continues Tuesday night, March 7, at 6:30pm as Bomsoro takes on the team that denied them a perfect record when they face the Hitters under the lights at the Oleai Sports Complex for Game 1. Game 2 and Game 3, if necessary, are both scheduled for Thursday night, March 9.
