In its pursuit to uplift environmental awareness in the CNMI, the Northern Marianas College campus on Rota held a successful environmental awareness panel discussion last Wednesday.

The NMC Rota Student Organization and the NMC Rota Earth Science class held the activity, which was part of the NMC’s Charter Week event.

The purpose of the event was to bring people together to learn and raise awareness of the environmental hazards that could affect an individual’s health as well as other local and global environmental issues.

According to the weekly news release and update from the college, there were different local government agency representatives that attended and participated in the discussion as distinguished panelists.

NMC Rota acknowledged government agencies that participated and made the event a very informative, educational, and enriching activity for NMC Rota students, Rota High School students, and the island’s community.

The local agencies that helped were Division of Environmental Quality-Solid Waste Management, Land Fill, Bureau of Environmental Health, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Coastal Resource Management, NMC CREES Tinian Animal Waste Management, and NMC CREES Rota’s Invasive Species and Scarlet Gourd.

NMC president Tony V. Deleon Guerrero said, “We hope that through this event, it will bring about positive influence to encourage students and all the people in the community to be more proactive around health issues and strengthen community partnership.”

Deleon Guerrero added that “keeping the CNMI clean and beautiful is everybody’s business.” (Marconi Calindas)
