Spain scholars set to gather on Saipan
Representatives from Guam, Palau, Northern Mariana Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia will gather at the Pacific Islands Club on April 7, together with a Spanish delegation coming from Manila to discuss the Spanish Program for Cultural Cooperation.
The program, administered by the Instituto Cervantes—the Spanish Cultural Centre in Manila—is a cooperative effort by the Spanish Ministry of Culture intended to strengthen cultural ties between Spain, the Philippines and the Pacific Islands. It awards financial support to projects in the Humanities and Social Sciences to study and promote the shared heritage and future of these three entities.
Since 1997, SPCC has been awarding grants in the Philippines and the Pacific islands and has so far given 180 grants.
Aside from discussing SPCC, other cultural cooperation efforts of the Spanish government in the Asia-Pacific region will also be presented. SPCC beneficiaries in the Pacific Islands will also give testimonials of their research process under SPCC in this conference.
SPCC general coordinator and director of Instituto Cervantes in Manila Dr. Javier Galvn, and Spanish historian Carlos Madrid will comprise the Spanish delegation based in Manila. (PR)
