The Marianas Visitors Authority’s board of directors intends to hire a new managing director from a pool of applicants who will respond to its published vacancy announcement.

The post is currently held in an acting capacity by MVA chief accountant Tess Castro. Her temporary appointment expires on April 13.

The board recently put out an advertisement for the managing director position. The vacancy announcement will close on April 17.

MVA board personnel committee chairman JM Guerrero said his committee would soon meet to make a decision whether to extend Castro’s appointment or name a new one.

Earlier reports said that the Fitial administration favors having Ron Sablan, former Hotel Association of Northern Mariana Islands president, for the top management post of MVA. Sablan’s possible entry was reportedly discussed during a recent Cabinet meeting.

Acting Commerce Secretary James Santos may also be considered for the MVA portfolio. Santos had reportedly applied for the post in the past.

The MVA has been without a permanent managing director since January this year when its former chief, Vicky I. Benavente, resigned from the post.

Benavente now occupies a managerial position at Hyatt Regency Saipan.
