All in attendance at the 2006 Inter-Government Basketball League bout Monday night were in for a treat as former national cager Steve Rasa was in a zone of his own to lead Department of Labor to victory at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Rasa scored more than the opposing team, as he buried six triples and finished with an out-of-this-world 70 points, or 16 more than the output of Department of Public Works.

With Rasa working his magic on the hard court, Labor was able to score 30 or more points in each of the four quarters and pick up it 11th win in 13 games and secure the No. 2 spot in the playoffs with a 126-54 win.

Rasa’s road to scoring 70 began with an 18-point effort in the first 10 minutes of play as he sank three bombs from long range and lifted Labor to a 30-17 advantage.

Unfortunately for DPW, Rasa was just getting started as he carried over his high-scoring affair into the second quarter and nailed two more triples while pumping in another 16 points. Ray Mostales also added nine points and Labor increased their lead to 61-25 at the break.

It was more good news for Labor and bad news for DPW in the second half as Rasa heated up for an even better performance. He scored 10 straight points at one point of the third stanza and sizzled for 23 points, then scored 10 straight points again in the fourth to close his campaign with 13 points in the last 10 minutes.

In all, Rasa finished with 25 regular field goals, six triples, and two free throws. Nathan Fujihira and Mostales added 20 and 16 points, while Mitch Aaron also chipped in 10 points.

Eric Atalig and John Deleon Guerrero led DPW with 16 and 15 points, while Myron Sablan added 13 points.
