Man pleads guilty to sex abuse
A former employee of the Department of Labor on Tinian accused of molesting a teenaged boy on the island has entered a guilty plea.
Anthony M. Barcinas, 31, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman accepted Barcinas’ plea and ordered the Probation Office to conduct a presentence investigation.
Wiseman set the sentencing for July 14, 2006 at the Tinian Superior Court.
The Attorney General’s Office charged Barcinas with sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree, and unlawful exploitation of a minor. The defendant and counsel entered into a plea agreement with the AGO. He pleaded guilty to one offense. The remaining charges were dismissed.
The agreement stated that the sentence shall not be more than 10 years in prison and a fine of not more than $10,000.
Then Chief Prosecutor Jeffrey Moots stated that between January 2003 and November 2005, the defendant engaged in sexual contact with the boy, who was between 13 and 14 years old. Moots said that Barcinas had also photographed the victim naked.
According to Detective Wally F. Villagomez in his report filed in court on Nov. 30, 2005, a school official called the Department of Public Safety asking for immediate assistance regarding a sexual abuse case.
Villagomez said that during investigation, the boy claimed that the defendant fondled him over a period of two years. (Ferdie de la Torre)
