$10K cash bail placed on man who stole vehicle
The man who stole a vehicle just outside MingYang store in San Vicente is facing a $10,000 bail, as well as jail time for his deed as imposed by the NMI Superior Court in Susupe on Oct 16.
On Oct. 14, the following day after 26-year-old Alastair Tmachul Augustino stole a vehicle from a woman, police caught and arrested Augustino and he appeared before Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho that Wednesday for his bail hearing.
Along with jail time, and a $10,000 bail Augustino is facing charges of theft of vehicle, reckless driving, and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Camacho ordered that Augustino be remanded back to the Department of Corrections, and reappear in court on Oct. 24 at 10am for a preliminary hearing and Oct. 28, at 9am for an arraignment.
Camera footage also showed that Augustino initially helped the woman park before stealing the car.
Court documents stated that a complaint reached the police about a car theft at Ming Yang on Oct. 13.
When cops arrived, they interviewed the victim and she said she had got down from her vehicle to check the laundry for available washers. She was walking back to her vehicle and saw that her vehicle started backing up and the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed as she tried to stop the vehicle from leaving.
The next day, Oct. 14, 2024 a traffic investigator reviewed the parking lot surveillance footage from Fresh Laundry. The shirtless male individual who had a shirt over his head and was barefoot was seen hiding behind a sedan. When the victim had exited her vehicle, the male individual started making his way towards her car. The male individual opened the driver door and got in the vehicle and seconds later the vehicle accelerated backing up. as the victim had stated.
On the same day at 10:18pm, DPS Central received a call from a man regarding the stolen vehicle parked at his residence along Kagman IIl Phase 4.
The caller notified DPS Central dispatcher the individual who took the vehicle is in his residence and asked officers to hurry to his location. Officers learned from the caller that he seen the video of the incident through social media and positively identified the shirtless male individual as Augustino, who resides with him in Kagman II, and who got in the black Mazda CX-9 and drove away from the parking lot of Fresh Laundry in San Vicente. Police officers located Augustino down the street at the neighbors where Augustino admitted to police that he had used his shirt to cover his face and he saw he had the opportunity to steal the Mazda CX-9 from the parking lot as he saw the operator had exited her vehicle. The report said that Augustino stated he stole the vehicle because he was tired of walking after he started walking from Chalan Laulau. According to the report Augustino admitted to officers, he had consumed alcoholic beverages the night of the incident. He left the laundromat and drove straight home to Kagman. He reversed the vehicle into his residence and turned the vehicle off. He tried to turn the vehicle on but the vehicle could not start. Augustino stated he was so drunk so he just slept in the vehicle until the next morning.
