$10k bail for registered sex offender

A man who was released on probation after an alleged sex abuse of a minor incident was arrested again for allegedly violating the conditions of his probation.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho issued a warrant last Aug. 22 for the arrest of registered sex offender Frank Kaneshi, for allegedly violating the terms of his probation by having a minor spend a night with him.

Kaneshi was arrested for offenses involving victims who are minors.

Camacho set Kaneshi’s bail yesterday at $10,000. He is set to be arraigned at the U.S. District Court on Sept. 10, and will be represented by Doug Hartig of the Public Defender’s Office.

According to an officer of the Department of Public Safety, Kaneshi was arrested during a compliance check on Aug. 13 by the CNMI Sex Offender Task Force and the U.S Marshal after finding Kaneshi with his girlfriend’s 2-year-old child in his apartment in As Lito.

When asked if he knows that he is prohibited from being around any minor, Kaneshi said yes.

Kaneshi later stated that the child stayed overnight with him and his girlfriend.

Back in June 22, 2011, Kaneshi pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree and is under probation.

Kaneshi is currently registered with the CNMI Sex Offender Registry as a tier 3 sex offender.
