13 artists register for 31st Flame Tree Arts Festival

Thirteen artists have so far registered to take part in the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival slated for next month.

Erica Trinidad, registration committee chair for the festival, said they are still expecting more traditional and contemporary artists to come out and express their interest as festival date gets closer.

“Still, we do encourage our local artists to register now so they are guaranteed a booth where they can promote their works of art,” said Trinidad.

Registration fees for this year’s festival are $50 for registered artists; $150 for new or non-registered artists; $1,500 plus $100 refundable trash deposit for private commercial or food vendors; $600 for non-profit organizations; and $250 for information booths.

The 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival, which coincides with the blossoming of flame tree flowers, will be held on April 20 to 22 at the Civic Center Park in Susupe.

Slots for those who will be performing during the three-day event are also starting to fill in, added the Arts Council.

Meanwhile, Arts Council executive director Angel S. Hocog described as “favorable” the funding for this year’s festival. He said this is made possible through the assistance of local businesses which have been steadfast in their support for the preservation and promotion of the CNMI’s art and cultural heritage.

To date, sponsors for the 31st Annual Flame tree Arts Festival are Bridge Capital, LLC, Delta Air Lines, and Tan Siu Lin Foundation. Hocog said more companies are expected to make their contribution to the festivities public in the coming days.

“We are optimistic that the local delegation will also provide us with the financial aid to ensure an enjoyable Flame Tree Arts Festival for the community,” added Hocog.
