14th TanHoldings Tennis Classic this weekend
The 14th TanHoldings Tennis Classic 2024 is set to kickstart today for a two-weekend tourney at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.
The first week of matches is the youth division from age groups 10-18 that is scheduled to start today, Friday, Nov. 1, to Sunday, Nov. 3.
Then, the adults are getting their turn under the spotlight as their division begins their matches next Friday, Nov. 8, to Sunday, No. 10.
The deadline for adult division entries is this Saturday by 6pm.
There are 15 titles up for grabs in the youth division, while there are 21 titles in the adult division.
In the girls 10 division, Fiona Yu is the top seed, while no. 2 is Aileen Yujung Kim.
Seung Woo Lee is the top seed in the boys 12 division. No. 2 is Cooper Koning Fong.
In the boys 14 division, Matthew Hwang is the top seed. Guam’s Eddie Calvo has the No. 2 spot.
Si Woo Lee has the top spot in the boys 18 division, while Simon Tang is in the No. 2 spot.
And Anne Lee is the player to beat in the girls 18 division, while no. 2 is Hannah Chae.
The players, seeding, and matchup of the rest of the divisions have yet to be determined at press time.
Last year, Anne Lee won the girls 18 championship; Stella Choi was the girls 16 champion; Fiona Yu topped the girls 10 division; Nason Wessel was the boys 16 division champion; David Kwon won it all in the boys 18 division; Ryan Choi won the boys 14 championship; Seungmin Jang was the boys 10 division champion; and Minjoon “Michael” Jeon won the boys 12 division.
Sponsors of the event are ASC Trust, Mobil, D&Q Distributors, Quality Distributors, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, National Park Service, AMS, iShop, Century Insurance, CTSI Logistics, TakeCare, and TBC.
The classic had a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and made a return in 2021.
