2 injured, 2 arrested as riot erupts at Garapan bar

What began as a late-night outing turned violent last Sunday when a riot broke out at the Flamingo Tavern in Garapan. The bar fight left two individuals injured and two others in police custody.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the incident was reported at approximately 11pm, Sunday night, and is currently under investigation.

Assistant chief of police and acting public information officer Simon Manacop shared that according to reports the altercation erupted between two groups inside the nightlife spot. The fight escalated quickly, resulting in one individual suffering a puncture wound to his back and another sustaining a laceration on his hand. Both victims were promptly treated at the Commonwealth Health Center and have since been released, with their injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

DPS officers responding to the scene arrested two other male individuals for the riot. The men have been booked at the Department of Corrections, currently under charges of rioting. Manacop said that due to the number of people involved it would require more time for investigation to determine all charges before submission. The identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed as the investigation remains active.

Manacop stated that law enforcement is working diligently to uncover the details surrounding the incident.

Saipan Tribune reached out to the owner of the establishment, but they were unable to comment at the time.

As authorities continue their investigation, DPS urged anyone with information regarding the incident to report it to the authorities. The department remains dedicated to maintaining order and preventing future occurrences of violence in the community.
