2 more CUC feeders to go

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. aims to have “Feeder 7” or the main lines running from its power plant in Lower Base up to the northern part of the island in Marpi to be energized by the end of this week, acting CUC executive director John Riegel told Saipan Tribune yesterday.

According to Riegel, they have two main power lines, or feeders, remaining to finish with repairs: Feeder 7 and Kiya 4, which comes off the substation in Chalan Kiya.

“We’ve got power poles and conductor all the way up to [La Fiesta, an abandoned mall]…Today and tomorrow, they are going to be stringing line.”

“Sometime this weekend, we should be energizing” the feeder, Riegel said.

Feeders 1, 2, 3, and 4, which run down main roads to Garapan, Oleai, and Middle Road are repaired, according to Riegel.

The “Kiyas,” or the main lines coming of the substation in Chalan Kiya, energize the southern half of the island.

Riegel also noted yesterday that they have about “80 percent” of water wells on line power, saying it would be a significant development when all wells are back online because it would allow them to start returning 24-hour water service on island.
