Hopwood dispels rumor of missing student

Hopwood Junior High School principal Jonas Barcinas dispelled rumors yesterday that one of his students has been missing since the weekend, saying the information was a result of some misunderstanding and miscommunication at school.

Retired cop-turned-fruit bat poacher gets 90-day sentence

U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona slapped yesterday a 90-day prison sentence against Adrian Atalig Mendiola, a retired police lieutenant who was convicted of poaching federally protected Mariana fruit bats on Rota in 2008.

2 lawmakers challenge casino survey

Reps. Stanley Torres (Ind-Saipan) and Joseph Palacios (R-Saipan) want the Saipan Chamber of Commerce to reveal the identities of Chamber members who participated in an online survey on a proposal to legalize casino gambling on Saipan. The Chamber is not commenting on the issue yet.
