A man raising fighting cocks as a hobby was given by the Zoning Board and Office until 6pm tomorrow to remove the fowls from his property located in a village residential zone or pay civil fines of at least $4,600.

$180M budget requests exceed projected revenue of $102M in FY 2013

Government agencies’ total budget requests reached some $180 million, far exceeding the projected revenue available for government operations in fiscal year 2013 which is only $102 million.

‘CNMI govt pays more for prisoners than on many employees’ wages’

The CNMI government spends an average of $32,485 annually for housing and feeding an inmate, much more than it spends on the salary of the lowest-paid employees of $10,000 to $14,000 a year who also have to deal with a 16-hour pay cut biweekly because of austerity measures.

Tourists not interested in casinos

The tourism master plan of the CNMI yielded an interesting fact: casinos did not make it to the Top Ten list of activities and options that tourists from various destinations wanted to see or explore in the Commonwealth.
