2nd person of interest in Cabrera case not yet cleared

The Department of Public Safety and the Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing its investigation on the death of Pedro Pangelinan Cabrera.

In fact, DPS assistant chief of police and acting public information officer Simon Manacop said CIB is investigating the second person of interest in the homicide and the individual has not yet been cleared.

“Although we have officially charged Moses Cabrera, we are still actively investigating the possible involvement of the second person of interest,” said Manacop, who added that aside from that there are no new updates in the investigation.

The second person of interest is the deceased’s other brother, Fritz.

On Aug. 5, 2024, Moses P. Cabrera, 78, appeared in Superior Court in Susupe after allegedly confessing to killing his brother, Pedro P. Cabrera, 71, whose body was discovered last Aug. 1 at the Garapan Fishing Base.

Facing multiple charges including second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter, Moses was placed under a $250,000 bail. His preliminary hearing was waived but his arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 19.

Moses allegedly confessed that a heated argument over family land led to a physical altercation where Pedro threatened him. Moses claimed he then struck Pedro with a hammer, later disposing his body at the fishing base. Crime scene was at the Cabrera home residence in San Jose.

Investigators identified the body as Pedro, a former inmate, and found evidence linking Moses to the crime, including bloodstains and a hammer near his residence. DPS shared their desire to keep the community informed and continues to urge the public and community members who have information related to the incident to share it by calling 911, DPS, or Crime Stoppers.
