31 complete Meek and Mighty swim

Thirty-one finished the 2016 SSC Meek and Mighty Ocean Swim held last Saturday in the waters off Pacific Islands Club.
The weekend swim featured three courses with Saipan Swim Club’s Kento Akimaru, Jinie Thompson, and Kengo Sato leading their respective distances.
Kento was the first to complete the three-loop 3K course after clocking in at 34:05. Lennosuke Suzuki came in next at 35:16, while Christian Villacrusis rounded out the Top 3 with his 35:29, just four seconds ahead of Taiga Sato (35:33).
David Boyer was ranked fifth after timing in at 35:58 and was followed by Jinnosuke Suzuki (37:09), Caleb Wang (38:31), Salofi Welch (39:09), Jinju Thompson (39:10), R.J. Pierce (39:11). Other finishers were Taiyo Akimaru (39:21), Wataru Kadokura (53:30 with fins), Dino Sato (55:14), Atsuko Sato (55:26), Will Schroeder (57:08), Joshua Berger (58:14), Tiffany Lin (59:49), and Josh Nelson (41:52/2K).
In the 1K course, Jinie was first out of the water and submitted 15:57, while Dominic Zedde placed second, but was the first male finisher in the division with his 17:24. Joining Jinie and Zedde in the Top 5 were Ayaka Sato (17:28), Jack Stewart (18:40) and Savita Sikkel (19:40).
Savita’s father Richard also completed the one-loop swim and finished sixth with his 19:41. Other swimmers who did the 1K event were Ayano Braxton (22:20), Mamiko Berger (22:13), Aoi Braxton (22:20), Fr. Ryan Jimenez (23:05), and John Moreno (28:36).
In the shortest course of the race—the 200m—Kengo timed in at 4:05 to beat Zeno Iwami (4:22) and Cojiro Kaga (4:10).
Meanwhile, SSC will have one more event this month with the staging of the 2016 SSC Pentathlon at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi on Feb. 20. Times in the tournament will be considered for CNMI age group and national records.
SSC will then close out the first quarter of 2016 by hosting two more events next month. The club will have the SSC International Invitational Meet on March 17 to 19 and the Saipan Ocean Swim on March 20.
