Over a hundred spectators converged last Saturday at the Garapan Central Park’s Roundhouse for the 36th Annual Agricultural Fair, drawing not just an ample audience but also persuading many farmers and ranchers to participate.

Later that evening, Hannah Cabrera was named the overall winner of the Youth Division, while Jack Torres won the Livestock Division, and Joseph Jones captured the overall Plant Division ribbon.

The fairgrounds opened at 8am and spectators were already viewing all the livestock and crops that were on display, as judges were also calibrating the results of the different competition divisions: Livestock, Plant, and Youth divisions.

Saipan Agricultural Fair Association Dr. Ignacio Dela Cruz was pleasantly surprised by the number of entries. He had hoped to see more of the youth participate in this year’s fair, and they did not disappoint.

His surprise was echoed by Lands and Natural Resources Secretary Anthony Benavente, who said that a total of 13 participant entries were made for both the livestock and plant division.

He said the youth division had nine participant entries and it is a major improvement for this year’s fair, as last year’s fair only had one entry.

Spectators were also pleased at the many displays of cows, bulls, goats, chickens, pigs, and ducks.

Later that evening, SAFA held an evening banquet for its participants and announced the winners of each division.

Among SAFA’s partners for the fair were the CNMI ranchers and farmers, the office of the Governor and Lt. Governor, the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, the Northern Marianas College’s Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services, Imperial Pacific International, Office of the Mayor of Saipan, Department of Public Works, Saipan Office of Zoning, Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, and DLNR.

Its donors were the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, DFS Saipan, Marianas Pacific Distributors, IT&E, Herman’s Modern Bakery, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, and McDonald’s Saipan.
