39 so far signed up for ‘Mats on Fire’
A total of 39 participants have so far signed up for Trench Tech Promotions’ “Mats on Fire” submission grappling tournament set for Sept. 28 at the Garapan Central Park Roundhouse.
In the kids gi, Wolfie Sablan, Neil Quitugua, and Uma Naputi will be vying in the 40- to 50-lb peewee 1; Ayani Rios, Sophia Choi, and Eleanor Anderson in the 51- to 60-lb peewee 2; Amelia Zevallos, Reiden Travilla and Deighton Muña in the 61- to 70-lb peewee 3; Mica Zevallos, Wesley Deleon Guerrero, and Tate Manglona in the 71- to 80-lb peewee 4; Kaiya Pangelinan. Ryusei Gersonde, Deon Greenman, Deanna Greenman, and Jerome Cruz in the 81- to 90-lb kids 1; Joseph Cruz, Trey Manglona, Dylan Greenman, and Jordan Camacho in the 91- to 100-lb kids 2; and J.J. Quitugua, Matua Puguon, Noel Quitugua, and Gabriel Mitchel in the 101- to 150-lb absolute.
In the adult no gi weight division, Drey Aldan is so far the lone competitor in the 101- to 110-lb super atom weight; Jessica Ma in the 111- to 120-lb atom weight; Ma again and BengBeng Palacios in the 121- to 130-lb flyweight; Baby Jay Muna and Daryn Roufs in the 131- to 140-lb bantam weight; Jimmy Polk, Jake Yamagishi, and Giovanni Taitingong in the 141- to 150-lb featherweight; Jose Camacho, Baelen “Leg Collector” Song, and Jason Artero in the 151- to 160-lb lightweight; Lucas Nutting and Shane “Pikaboo” Alvarez in the 186- to 205-lb light heavy weight; and Nutting, Mahon Gandi, and Kier Agda in the 206- to 250-lb heavy weight.
Mats on Fire serves as Trench Tech Promotions’ fundraiser for the upcoming Påtgon Jiu Jitsu Tournament in Guam set for Oct. 26.
For the adult’s no gi division, there’s a $40 registration fee, and students get an additional $5 off and pay only $35 to enter and compete. Just show a valid student ID, while for or the kids’ gi division, the registration fee is $25.
Aside from the kids gi and adult no gi divisions, Mats on Fire will also feature five exhibition kickboxing matches.
Main sponsors of the “Mats on Fire” submission grappling tournament are Monster Energy, Century Hotel, and Hafa Adai Rent-A-Car. Other sponsors include Fökai and Trench Tech Purebred Gym.
All competitors will be vying for gold, silver, and bronze medals in each division and there will be a raffle for the audience.
Spectators pay $5 for kids ages 5-12 and $10 13 and up. Kids under 5 years old are free. Matches will be from 10am to 4pm with doors opening at 9am. Trench Tech Promotions will also be selling food and drinks so no outside food or drinks allowed.
All interested competitors can call, (670) 783-4MMA to enter. They would need to fill out the registration form and waiver and pay their entry fee. Deadline to register will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 6pm.
