$3K bail imposed on habitual offender
The Superior Court has imposed a $3,000 cash bail on a habitual offender accused of breaking into and stealing valuable items from a Chalan Kanoa home.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho imposed Friday a $3,000 cash bail on Martin T. Castro, 38, who is facing charges of burglary, and theft and vandalism.
After his bail hearing, Castro was remanded back to Department of Corrections custody and was ordered to return to court on Feb. 23, for a preliminary hearing. Castro will be arraigned on March 4.
Castro has faced multiple burglary and theft charges in a number of different cases dating back to 2004.
In this latest case, according to court documents, the Department of Public Safety received at around 7:53pm on Tuesday Feb. 13, a report about a burglary and theft incident at the residence in Chalan Kanoa.
Police said that, according to the home’s owner, Stephanie Gruy, she left her house around 10am and came back around 5pm. Because she couldn’t find her laptop that she needed for work, she went through their surveillance footage from home and saw a male individual inside the house taking her Samsung laptop and Nintendo Switch.
Police reviewed the surveillance footage and allegedly recognized Castro, based on their interactions with him in previous cases.
On Feb. 14, a police officer spotted Castro walking along Texas Road and he was arrested on charges of burglary and theft.
Castro allegedly confessed and led police to the Samsung laptop and the Nintendo Switch, which Gruy later positively identified as her belongings.
