$3K bail imposed on man accused of assault

The Superior Court has imposed a $3,000 cash bail on a man accused of assaulting a woman during an argument.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho imposed Wednesday a $3,000 cash bail on Moses Kaipat Buekis, 38, who is charged with assault and battery, domestic violence, and disturbing the peace.

The Superior Court released Buekis on his own recognizance and ordered him to return to court on Jan. 8, 2024, for his arraignment.

According to court documents, the Department of Public Safety received a call on Dec. 21 at around 6:56pm about a disturbance at the Benavente Apartments in As Lito.

At the scene, police spoke with the anonymous caller who reported that a woman and man were heard shouting in one of the apartments. However, after police couldn’t locate the apartment, they left. Later that evening, police met with the owner of the apartments, who brought police to the alleged victim.

The alleged victim told police that she got into an argument with Buekis that turned physical.

Police later met with Buekis who allegedly admitted to punching the victim.

At around 7:39pm, police arrested Buekis and booked him at the Department of Corrections.

In a follow up interview with the victim, she told police that she and Buekis had been drinking alcohol throughout the day when Buekis got mad about the food she had given him. Around 5pm that same day, the victim said she and Buekis got into another argument, which allegedly led to Buekis punching the victim twice in the face.

During the argument, the victim said she yelled out for help when Buekis allegedly wrapped his hands around her neck for about five seconds. The victim later added that Buekis also kicked her in her right rib.
