Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio signed yesterday a proclamation declaring December as mental health and substance abuse awareness month. The proclamation reaffirms the government’s commitment to help those suffering from mental and emotional traumas.

Tenorio said the month will be devoted in emphasizing the importance of maintaining good mental health as well as a drug-free community.

“The goals of mental health and substance abuse awareness month are to make known the need for educating our communities; to emphasize the importance of maintaining good mental health as well as a drug-free life so that, together with our children, we can grow in peace and harmony,” the governor said.

The governor challenged private and public health care providers, including various community-based organizations and service groups, to help the government carry out its responsibility in helping people with mental illness or substance abuse problems.
