Superior Court Judge John A. Manglona yesterday suspended a three-year jail sentence of a Saipan resident who admitted to possession of crystal methamphetamine, or ice.

Remedio Palacios negotiated an agreement with the government and changed her not guilty plea.

In return, the government agreed to sentence her to three years in jail, all suspended on the condition that she be placed on a supervised probation for five years, pay a fine of $1,900 and restitution of $100 to the DARE program.

She also waived her right to appeal the case and agreed to perform 750 hours of community work and enrol in a drug treatment program.

Palacios was charged with two counts of delivery of ice and two counts of possession.

Conviction would have meant a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and $14,000 in fines.
