The enrichment program at San Vicente Elementary School is a combination of an after school and Saturday club. It combines Science and field trips for students who are on off-track (SVES remains in multi-track system) as one activity to keep them busy while on vacation. We asked students for their experiences. Here are their views:

“We wanted to keep them active and do scientific and academic stuff,” said adviser Tom Kinsky. “We chose participants both by ability and enthusiasm because we want to make this open to kids.”

I think it is fun. I tried not to miss any of my field trips. I wake up early, sometimes I come in late. But I always get to check the van and oftentimes, the group is waiting for me.
I learned about some of the animals and plants that I never saw before. We went to some places that I’ve never been to. For example the Talafofo falls, it is like a stream and I had the chance to swim in deep parks.

Before the trip, I thought the waves can go up only about one feet to two. But it can go beyond two and reach four feet in height.
I thought the wind doesn’t go really fast. But when we were at the beach, it went real fast. I didn’t also know that the beach can suck you in a little. It almost caught me.
At the Talafofo Falls, the water slide was quite fun and they had a swing there.

We took the water temperature, like how cold it was. We wrote letters and put inside the bottles. Mr. Kinsky said it will take a few days before it will reach another island.

You know, I made a bunch of friends. My dad (the adviser) is the one who thinks about the places to go so I kind of been to mostly all of them. But sometimes we go hiking, just like following a ravine. I made some friends out of the people who always go to the hiking club.

I planted coconut at the hidden beach. The ocean is big and waves were high.

Sometimes we estimated the height of the waves.

I saw a lot of things from the Japanese war inside the caves. There’s a big missile and we took our pictures with it. I have never been to Pau-Pau beach and the beehive cave but in the hiking club we went there. I like to go inside the caves and use my flashlights.
